About the project

This demo project was created to showcase just how powerful the default themes on Shopify can be. In the course of this project, I had to utilize both the front-end Shopify customizer, the back-end customizer, as well as implement my own HTML, CSS, and JS code.

What was the goal of the project?

The goal was to create a store that looked professional, contained a lot of common customizations, and utilized both front-end and back-end customizations for easy usability by the client, all using the default Dawn theme. I wanted the end result to be totally functional, and representative of a typical, professional storefront.

Project execution

Aside from the usual store-creation tasks, I made several customizations throughout the course of this project..

• Created a custom subscription page connected to a third-party subscription app
• Custom-coded a testimonial slider that is fully customizable from the Shopify Customizer.
• Added a custom "coffee-info" table that is automatically generated from information placed in the product metafields
• Designed a stylish, modern homepage using premium assets and modern web design techniques.

Project results

I am extremely pleased with the outcome of this project. The site looks clean, professional, and the customizations, while minor, have a big impact on the usability and functionality of the site. Obviously, premium themes come with a lot more features, and it's more time and cost-effective to use one of them instead of making everything from scratch. But if you only want a few of those features, modifying the default themes still lets you create an amazing looking store.
